I've been gardening for many years, and this raised bed has exceeded my expectations. The frame is sturdy, the size provides plenty of room for growing a variety of vegetables, and assembly was straightforward with no surprises. Once assembled, it felt solid and well-designed for the growing season ahead. I purchased a much more expensive name-brand bed a few years ago and while there are some noticeable differences, this bed seems like it will be just as durable for a fraction of the cost.Our friends who have farmed for years wanted to see the assembly of this raised bed and they were so impressed, they have purchased five of their own to use for vegetable production. That's a pretty strong endorsement from people who grow crops for a living.If you're looking for a durable, spacious raised bed that's easy to put together and looks great in the garden, I would definitely recommend this one. We put several layers of cardboard boxes on the bottom to kill the grass and act as a weed barrier, then add sticks or small logs, leaves, and trimmings from pruning our trees and shrubs. The next layer is last year's potting soil from various pots and planters, which brings it about half full. Then we add a mix of compost (such as Daddy Pete's) and potting soil/raised bed soil. This technique reduces the amount of potting soil we need to purchase and provides a place for the yard debris to break down while simultaneously enriching the soil.
