I honestly didn’t realize how much a good kitchen trash can could improve everyday life until we replaced our old plastic one. The lid on our previous can had been broken forever, so we were constantly touching it, balancing it, or dealing with it sitting open. This GARVEE 13-gallon stainless steel step trash can has made the entire process cleaner, quieter, and so much easier.It has a sleek, modern look that instantly made our kitchen feel more put together. It’s a full-size 50-liter can with plenty of capacity, but the rectangular shape and flat back let it sit neatly against a wall or the end of a counter without wasting as much floor space as a round bin. The recessed side handles also make it easier to reposition when I need to clean around it.The wide foot pedal works smoothly and doesn’t require a hard stomp. Being able to open the lid hands-free is especially convenient when I’m cooking, carrying dishes, or have something messy to throw away. The lid opens fully, then lowers slowly and quietly instead of slamming. That soft-close feature may sound like a small luxury, but after living with a broken lid, it has been one of my favorite parts. There’s also a stay-open position for longer tasks such as food prep or changing the bag.The removable inner bucket is probably the smartest part of the design. Standard 13-gallon kitchen bags fit well, and the liner stays supported instead of slipping down into the can as it fills. The rim keeps the extra bag material tucked away, so the outside looks much neater without plastic hanging over every edge. When it’s time to change the bag, I can lift the bucket out, remove the liner more easily, and clean the plastic insert separately if anything has leaked. That’s so much more practical than trying to wash or carry the entire metal can.The lid closes with a good, snug fit and has done a much better job containing normal kitchen odors than our old trash can. We live in Florida, where heat can make food-related smells become noticeable quickly, so keeping the lid sealed really matters. It isn’t a substitute for taking the trash out regularly, of course, but odors stay contained far better while the lid is closed.The stainless exterior wipes clean easily, and using the pedal means we aren’t constantly touching the front with our hands. The finish still benefits from an occasional microfiber wipe, especially if damp or greasy fingers touch it, but ordinary marks haven’t been difficult to remove. The anti-slip base also keeps the can steady while the pedal is being used.At approximately 16 by 14 inches and around 24 inches tall, it holds a substantial amount without becoming unusually tall or awkward. The opening is wide enough for food packaging and other bulky waste, and the larger capacity means fewer trips outside. It also arrived fully assembled, so setup was basically just removing the packaging, adding a liner, and putting it in place.The can feels stable, the pedal mechanism has been responsive, the lid closes properly every time, and the removable bucket makes maintenance much easier. Every feature we regularly use has worked exactly as it should.This has been such a worthwhile household upgrade. The quiet lid, responsive pedal, secure bag fit, odor containment, removable bucket, and polished appearance all make daily cleanup easier. I expected a nicer-looking trash can, but I didn’t expect it to make such a noticeable difference in how smoothly our kitchen functions.
