My 12 year old niece helped me put together.
My husband is fairly handy and decided to try it. Our photos show (1) the parts being laid out before starting; (2) in process assembly; (3) showing the height adjustment possibilities on the support bar; (4) finished product. It's nice that the support bar can be put right or left of the steps, but odd that it cannot be installed in front. It seems very sturdy and the support bar makes it safer to use than other products without a hand grip. If you want to adjust the support, you need one hand pushing in on each of the two metal 'buttons' while another person pulls up or down on the top bar. Think about where you'd store this - it is not collapsible - and how much effort it takes to move it. It is sturdy, but that makes it harder to move around. Also note that having six points of contact , this stool must be used on a flat surface; otherwise it will rock and lose some stability. Taking into account everything we've stated, we give it 4 stars overall.
