Sturdy, versatile, and easy to store.

This portable work stand arrived in well packaged, with all the required pieces and hardware ready to be assembled. Assembly was simple, following the graphical directions (no words, just pictures), and required two small adjustable wrenches, or sockets of the correct size. The heavy-duty steel construction feels solid, and the 750-lb weight capacity gives me confidence when working on larger items. It's been stable during sanding, painting, sawing, and repairs without wobbling.Setup only takes a minute; the chains are fully adjustable with a clip at the end of each. Extending them to full length sets the working height lower to the ground and creates a larger work surface for bigger items (perhaps working with a full sheet of plywood), while shortening the chains sets the working height up to about waist-level, but reduces the support area, which I found good for supporting dimensional lumber (see photos). When working with painted items (car parts), the padded support bars help protect surfaces from scratches. The folding design lets it store easily when not in use, making it perfect for garages with limited space. However, because of the chain attachment hardware, I found that I couldn't fully close the support arms to be perfectly flat for storage. But they do collapse far enough for convenient storage.

An alternative to traditional wooden saw horses

I will be using this work stand in lieu of saw horses - it's more readily portable and easier to store. But I have grave doubts about that 750 lb. capacity - I'm not an engineer, but it seems to me that the weight bearing capacity comes down to the strength of two bolts, so I wouldn't bet on it holding up to anything really heavy. Just saying...The instructions were not good - I'm still not sure I have all the washers in the right places - but I did manage to get it assembled. You will need tools, by the way - I had to use a wrench to get one of the nuts on, and to tighten the joints. Also, there was an orange powder in the plastic surrounding the tubular legs, and it didn't match the color of the paint. Rust perhaps? I don't know, but it did give me pause...This work stand will be fine for my purposes, but there is no way I would trust this with anything more than ordinary household and/or garage duty.

Better than sawhorse

I got excited about this as a replacement for my old, heavy wooden sawhorse pair that doubles as a portable workbench when I drill a 3'x5' plywood platform onto it. I wasn't sure how to secure the platform onto this item, until I realized that I could just flip it over and use extra large electric cable fasteners. Works like a charm with 7/8" wood screws on 1" plywood. It's so much easier to drag this lightweight work stand around than the sawhorses as I move around the room. It's strong enough to support my weight, which is an added bonus when I am doing ceiling work and painting. For use in an auto shop... I don't know. I grew up in a commercial garage, and I know what kind of construction and materials are needed to support an engine block and other heavy automotive parts that you need to set aside to do extensive repair and restoration. I wouldn't use this for that. On the other hand, I plan to use it to service my push mower and replace the blade without having to flip it over and leak gas and oil everywhere.

Sturdy, Simple and Easy to Store

This is a solid, straightforward work stand that is useful for a variety of garage and workshop projects. The steel frame feels sturdy, and the chain makes it easy to adjust the width and working height. The foam padding is a nice touch for protecting painted panels, glass or other surfaces from scratches. It folds down quickly when not in use and does not take up much storage space. It is especially handy for supporting bumpers, doors, hoods or larger pieces while painting, repairing or working on them. One thing worth noting is that the listing references both a 500-pound and 750-pound capacity, so that should be clarified. Regardless, it feels plenty stable for the types of automotive and home workshop projects most people would use it for.
