My wife has always wanted a metal detector so when this GARVEE Metal Detector came up, I had to grab it. This was one of those items for us that you get excited about receiving. Upon arrival, I was surprised to see how well this metal detector was disassembled as the box that arrived seemed a bit small to house such a device. I love that this bundle comes with batteries, headphones, a had shovel/pick with case, instructions, an optional service protection flyer, besides the disassembled metal detector.I quickly assembled the metal detector which was fairly easy as I only glanced at the instructions for a second. I hurried to get this done before my wife arrived home. Once she seen it her eyes lit up with excitement and immediately headed out to the backyard. See the video below for our first find in the yard which also shows how well this metal detects. We opted to go without the headset so we can all join in by listening to the machine go off. I will say we found a couple of spots with what seemed needed a bit too deep of digging so we gave up on those spots as the home was getting deeper by the second. The metal detector worked flawlessly and has many options/modes to choose from in order to refine the detection of certain metals. This is an excellently priced item for the amount of joy you get and would make a great gift for anyone interested. I can’t wait to take this out with us the next time we venture out to a lake, beach, or river.

In the package I received the metal detector telescopic shaft, 8 inch coil, the Large LCD readout screen, set of headphones, 6 AA batteries, storage bag, fold-able shovel and assembly instructions. The parts are easy to assemble, I do like how this unit uses AA batteries. Once assembled I did take it outside for a test run. It had no problem locating items 5 inches down in the ground.The large LCD screen categorizes the metal objects that sets it off into three groups. Iron, gold and silver. When it hits on something it will flash the appropriate category and it makes a beeping sound. Another feature ls that you can press a pinpoint, (PP), button on the screen and it will make a sound that goes louder the closer you get to the object and their is a bar graph showing you how close you are to the object. The LCD screen also has a "DISC" button which allows you to tell the unit what type of items you want it to only look for such as just silver objects or just gold objects.This is a beginner type metal detector unit, as such it is it is well built, seems to do a good job finding metal objects in the ground, for me it seemed to not do a great job in classifying the metal objects that it hits on. For example I had it set to look for gold only but when I came near a regular metal stake it set it off and the stake is not made of gold.If you want to just have fun looking for objects in the ground, treasure hunting at the beach or park, letting your kids enjoy learning to use it and look for buried treasure, I think that this is a great product. You may want to consider getting some re-chargeable AA for the unit.
