My boyfriend admitted that this is probably the funnest thing I've ordered this year (and as a chronic shopper, I've ordered a lot). But, we've been on a big, trinket-finding kick and we've talked endlessly about getting a metal detector to aid in our treasure hunting, and this one by GARVEE is a great way for us to dip our toes into the metal detector game before going all out and getting the most expensive tools out there. Plus, neither of us have ever even come close to a metal detector (just big fans of youtube creators that do similar things) so we really need something beginner-friendly.This one arrives in pieces, with the more fragile pieces protected but setting it up probably takes a little under ten minutes (and breaking it down when you're done probably takes about two), and is very easy. The hardest part was probably putting the battery in right since the little plus and minus signs are difficult to see, especially in low light.I would definitely recommend taking some time to at least skim the directions if you're a true beginner to get a sense of the different buttons, and once you do that, it's pretty easy to use. I did keep the directions handy as we were testing it out in my backyard to get a better sense of what metals we were coming across. We mostly stuck with the forest feature and the pinpoint feature, but once we get more comfortable, we'll probabbly see more value in the other search modes.I also love that it comes with headphones, a little (and very nice) shovel, and a carrying bag. It's truly everything you'll need to get started.

Between the consistent 5.8kHz performance, easy-to-read screen, and simple controls, this detector is just fun to use. It’s reliable enough that I trust what it’s telling me, which makes every hunt more enjoyable.

This GARVEE metal detector is a solid choice for beginners but still feels capable enough for regular use. The controls are pretty easy to figure out, and the backlit LCD display makes it simple to see what’s going on, even when the lighting isn’t great.I like having the different detection modes, and the pinpoint function is helpful once you get a hit and want to narrow down the spot. The adjustable sensitivity and volume are nice too, especially if you’re using it in different areas like the beach, yard, or field. It feels sturdy for the price, works as expected, and makes a good starter setup without feeling cheap.

This is a very beginner friendly metal detector. It is definitely adult sized but handle can be adjusted for teenagers. The kit here comes with a very basic but efficient setup for beginners. You have a shovel, a detector, headphones and user guide. The user guide is especially nice for beginners. This one has options to discriminate metals so you can tell what your picking up on.As far as precious metals go, this is capable of picking up silver but not gold. So for old coins this is great. It has different tones for discriminating low for iron, middle tones for like zinc and higher tones for silver.It seems to pick up fairly deep, deep enough for water banks where we will be using this mostly. I did get this for our teenager as she's a bit too big for kids ones and this is very basic and easy to use for teens. It works for anyone who doesn't want a complicated set.It's fairly loud, so if noises publicly bother you... You can just plug in the headphones and have a more discreet experience. I'd definitely get a pinpoint detector to pair with this and a sifter. You can sift sand or mud along river banks. The shovel is a pretty decent one so you shouldn't need anything else unless you want something smaller.Overall I think this isn't a bad buy by no means. I was hoping for a little bit more out of this but I'm pretty satisfied from what use we will get out of it. The backpack is pretty nice as well... We have backpacks but this is made to hold it all and a bit more so it's a nice gesture to include something like this for everything and heavily appreciated.The brand too is a pretty well known and a trusted brand, I expect it should hold up for years with proper storage.
