The shelf is super secure and loosens/tightens itself up. For my application it doesn’t matter if it’s down all the time but YMMV. I ended up ‘flaring’ the top corners out to better accommodate my supplies, so it didn’t matter. Good addition to my work/moto van.

Really like it put it on my box trailer door to hold all my junk love this thing we’re in the lawn care business and we are hard on this thing and it holds up to everything we throw at it highly recommended. It's a great option for alot of uses.
