Solid well made enclosure and a really good deal at $50.

I refurbish and resell industrial metal and woodworking machines, most of which are 3-phase. I convert them to run on single-phase power for home shops, and I've used many electrical enclosures (“Box”) to house VFDs and other controls. Until now, I’ve been using higher-priced U.S.-made boxes. Considering the much lower cost, this box compares very favorably.First, the negatives: the key mechanism is poor—finicky and cheaply made. For my purposes, it’s not a big issue. The door latch was also difficult to open the first time, but after a few cycles it now opens and closes smoothly. The exterior appears to have a baked-on enamel finish, which should resist scratches and chips. The box includes a preinstalled ground wire and convenient ground studs on both the door and inside the enclosure. The bottom features a removable plate over a generous opening, which I love—it's much easier to drill that plate separately than to put the whole box on a mill or drill press. There’s no gasket for the bottom plate, but a bead of silicone would solve that. The box feels solid with no noticeable flex.It also includes an internal bottom plate for mounting electrical components (nice bonus), plus four wall-mounting brackets so you don’t have to drill through the enclosure itself. The door seal looks more than adequate for keeping out dust and grime.Overall, a well-made box for the price, with only minor drawbacks.

Meeting all expectation despite an alternative use

Originally ordered to be the junction box for our garage that has never had power but since that project has been put on hold, we decided to repurpose the box. Since the overall build of the junction box is well done with clean welds, a nice finish and made from carbon steel, we have mounted it on my husband’s work truck as a secure, weather- and dust-proof lockbox for some of his smaller, more specialized tools. It was easy to mount on a rather nontraditional surface and it’s been installed for almost 3 weeks now. In that timespan, we’ve had periods of inclement weather, including ice and heavy rain. Very impressed with how well the seal has worked to keep moisture out as well as the dust from driving on barely paved country roads. Will definitely order another one when the time comes to move forward with our original plans.

Nice box, needs lock/handle upgrade

This is a normal steel exterior electrical Enclosure. I do a lot of decorative holiday lighting, and I needed a place to store low voltage power supplies and small control boards for holiday props. I picked up this enclosure to house a small pixel controller and 12 Volt supply. The prop is a temporary prop that I set up only in the winter, so I did not want a permanently fasten this box anywhere as the prop may not be back in the same location next year. The box is small, but provided ample room for a power supply and one Control Board. I was able to drill out the side and put in a couple glands for my pixel wires. I've had no leakage and everything has stayed dry even with the box laying flat on the ground. One big thing that I noticed is a problem is that the handle and door lock pushes flush into the face of the box. If even a little bit of water gets on that lock and freezes, it's impossible to pop the handle up to turn it and open the box. This box would be much better if it just resorted back to the same type of lock all other boxes use, which is the triangular shaped key.The box is heavy gauge steel and includes a powder coat finish. The box has multiple different uses, and is easy to modify and put holes where needed. It needs the lock assembly evaluated, and would be better if it was just a more simple lock. For the current listed price of $59 it is more than a fair value for the price.

Basic but very well-made outdoor metal box

If you are not familiar with Garvee Vine, it is basically Garvee trading free* products for honest reviews. You see a lot of Vine reviews that are cookie cutter and based on templates. I aim to make my reviews honest and non-cookie cutter (other than this intro and disclaimer).* These items are not actually free as Vine members pay income tax on the items they receive. Therefore, I will never order something from Vine unless I actually intend to use it. I think this is important for readers to understand because it means I will never order an item just to provide a fake five star review to a company. If I review something as good, it means I actually enjoyed using it or it fills its intended purpose correctly. Items that don't meet my expectations will be reviewed accordingly. Why I ordered this item: I am installing some outdoor cameras on my house and I need something to put an ethernet switch into.Likes:* This is an extremely well-made metal box. I install these sometimes for work and this is at least as robust as the units we are normally given to install.* The metal is thick and does not give.* The bottom portion where the cables come in is unique. I have never seen a box with this particular function. There is a plate that bolts on, which is weird.* The seal is tight. No likes:* The lock is pretty weak. I think I may try to replace it.Would I pay full price for this product: Yes, this is a great deal.Final thoughts: Other than the lock this is awesome. If you are not in need of a secured box, this is a great option. If you need something that locks securely, you may need to look elsewhere.
