This 2-pack steel stair riser / 1-step stringer set is one of those simple prefab solutions that makes building outdoor steps a lot easier if you don’t want to cut and calculate your own stringers. I like that it’s heavy-duty powder-coated steel because it feels solid enough for outdoor use, and the pre-drilled holes make installation pretty straightforward. When it’s mounted correctly, it gives you a stable, repeatable step structure that works well for decks, sheds, garages, or small elevation changes without needing a full custom build.In use, it’s basically a “bolt it in place and add your tread” kind of system. I like that flexibility because I can match it with whatever decking material I’m already using, and the steel frame feels strong enough to handle regular foot traffic. The coating also helps with rust resistance, which matters a lot if it’s staying outside year-round.That said, it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution. I still have to be precise with height and spacing, because once it’s mounted, there’s not much room for adjustment. And like most prefab metal stringers, it only really shines on small step builds—if I were doing a full staircase or uneven terrain, I’d still rather custom cut wood or go with a heavier-duty fabricated system. The included hardware also tends to be pretty basic, so I sometimes upgrade bolts depending on how permanent I want the install to be.Overall, I think it’s a solid, time-saving option for adding a simple 1–2 step setup outdoors. It’s strong, easy to work with, and gets the job done, but it really depends on careful measuring and using it in the right kind of small-scale application.

Great steps, but difficult to get screws in the tight spots. We made it more difficult by using treated wood and bigger screws.
