This safe is quite heavy which was apparent when I brought the box inside. It is definitely heavy duty and worth getting if your looking for a safe without spending a ton of money. The metal & steel that make up the safe are quality materials as are the bolts to bolt it to the floor. It comes with keys as well as a passcode to open it. There is a good amount of space inside to be able to put everything important inside it. I definitely recommend this safe to anyone looking for a good quality safe.

This is a smallish safe that's perfectly sized for secure storage of a typical household's worth of documents, valuables and perhaps a handgun if you have one. To illustrate the size of this safe I've included a photo of a typical size hand calculator inside the safe. I'd describe this safe as "medium security", as such it weighs less than 30 lbs and is very easy for one person to move around for installation. Setting the digital pass-code is easy using the included instructions. The only (slightly) annoying part of that process for me was locating the required AA batteries, which are not included with the safe. As a backup to the keypad, or if you just prefer analog technology, a pair of keys is also provided.Hardware provided to secure the safe to the floor or a wall is good quality. Note that consistent with the "medium security" construction of this safe the mounting hardware is not sufficient to resist efforts by a crowbar to remove it from it's mounting place to carry away. Likewise, though the construction is all steel it's doubt it'd take me 5 minutes with an angle grinder to get inside. But, how many home burglars, curious kids or nosy mothers-in-law carry angle grinders? Since the product description mentions the safe is not water resistant, I am installing it away from water lines.Overall this is a great choice for a small safe in any home. It's not a mini Fort Knox, but for the price and intended uses this is a great choice at a fair price. A solid 5 stars from this reviewer!

I already have a Sentry fire and water resistant safe, it's made of this fire retardant material that also has a water resistant seal. It's not that large, but more than enough to hold our passports and other small documents. It's also from 20 years ago so it can be operated only by a key. I've been looking for a larger safe that can hold larger documents and random stuff, and can also be opened and closed with an electronic keypad. This seems to fit the bill.Let's just stare the obvious first, this is not fire or water resistant. The metal construction without any visible fire retardant material should have given away the former, and the latter is clearly stated in the product description. I knew that going on, but I also have a sprinkler system due to the distance of the house from the street. But if fire protection is your primary objective you'll want something else.Okay, with that out of the way, lets get to the safe itself. As mentioned earlier it's made with metal, or carbon steel as the manufacturer stated, 14 gauge on the body and 8 gauge on the door. It seem it's plenty thick as a theft deterrent, although if someone is determined and has sufficient time this won't stop them. But then again if you have something super valuable I hope you spend more than $100 for their protection and have multiple layers of defense. Now I've seen some other safes claim their doors are up to 2" thick but upon closer inspection they're including the locking mechanism in the thickness which is somewhat disingenuous, this manufacturer went the honest route. The locking bolts are 20mm in diameter, about the same as other similar safes, I do note they seem a little loose in their tracks and lacking that totally solid feel, it does make me wonder how strong the locking mechanism is.The safe comes with pre-drilled mounting holes on both the bottom and the rear, giving a couple anchoring options, although unless you can align the rear holes with wall studs floor mounting is probably a better bet. There are four mounting bolts with expanding anchors, they're long enough to get past the carpet and padding to make a solid hold on the sub floor below.There are three ways to operate the safe. A pair of backup keys, a master code that is retained even after the battery is removed, and a user code that is lost when the batteries are removed (or died). Each of the code can be up to 8 digits long. I've only had experience with electronic safes in hotels and here I noticed a key difference. The ones in hotels will operate the bolts electronically, this safe requires a manual twist of the knob. Here the knob is plastic and its operation feels a little light to the touch, making me wondering again just how strong the locking mechanism is or how durable the plastic knob will be over time.On the inside there's a felt padding for the bottom and a suspended shelf that can also be removed for the taller stuff, and 1.2 cu ft is significantly larger than my current sage so this more than meets my needs.So why the 4 stars? The flimsy feeling locking mechanism and the durability of the knob.

This is a very nice safe. I like the fact that it comes with keys that can be used in case you forget the combination. I’m not sure if it is fire resistant.
