My chimney cap blew off in a storm. This galvanized steel vent cap fit perfectly. The micro-adjustable straps secured it tightly.

My old roof vent cap had rusted through, letting rain drip into my attic and, worst of all, providing an entry point for mice. I needed a replacement that was sturdy, weatherproof, and pest-proof. This 7/8 inch removable roof vent cap checked every box. The heavy-duty galvanized steel construction is night and day compared to my old flimsy cap—it feels solid and rust-resistant, which gives me confidence for years of use. The integrated rain guard and mesh screen are exactly what I needed; the rain stays out, and the screen is fine enough to block even small rodents and insects while still allowing excellent airflow. Installation was surprisingly simple thanks to the micro-adjustable straps. I didn't need any special tools or skills—just wrapped the straps around my existing 7-inch vent pipe, tightened them, and the cap was secure. No screws into my roof, no leaks from mounting holes. The removable design is a nice bonus; I can take it off easily for cleaning or inspection.

This cap is assembled with screws rather than being staked or riveted. That allows it to be opened up for cleaning, if necessary, without removal from the roof.Pluses:1. It has a built-in damper.2. It came well packaged.3. Compared to any of the alternatives available at the local home improvement stores, this unit was top notch, even if flawed.Minuses:1. The screen component corners were not square. It was necessary to reform it a bit to make it fit.2. The finish is fragile. Even though the packaging was good, there were scuffs through the coating.3. The damper had metal on metal contact. It would be nice if it had an elastomer contact surface. I used a bead of RTV silicone. Edge molding would as be a possibility.
